Tenants may soon have more rights when it comes to rent increases. A proposed amendment to the Residential Tenancies Act would require landlords to provide estimates of rent increases, before doing extensive renovations. Consumer Affairs Minister Jim Rondeau says that tenants need to have full information so they can decide what to do when a landlord renovates. In some cases, if rent increases cause a tenant to move, the landlord may even be required to compensate the tenant for moving and other expenses.
