Tax Sharing Talks Continue

Tax sharing talks between the Town of Swan River and surrounding municipalities are ongoing. At Tuesday night’s council meeting, the town’s mayor and council discussed the idea, suggesting that it already had interest from both the RM of Swan River and the RM of Minitonas. A resolution was passed to involve the other G7 municipalities in the discussion. Councillor Jason Sakal noted that it was too bad there hadn’t been an agreement in place before the town began the process of annexing the Reich property on the south side of Swan River. It was said that having an agreement in place might prevent feuding over properties in the future. A public hearing on the Reich annexation is scheduled for May 29th.
